REPOST: CROOKED LITTLE VEIN/San Diego Contest [Jul. 18th, 2007|01:37 am]
Previous Entry Add to Memories Share Next Entry
HarperCollins/William Morrow, the publisher of my novel CROOKED LITTLE VEIN (out from July 24), have printed up thousands of CROOKED LITTLE VEIN temporary tattoos. When I get a graphic of them, I'll show them. These tattoos are going to be given away at the San Diego comics convention -- at my CLV signing, at the HarperCollins booth, and probably at the Avatar booth too.

(I can't send you the tattoos, so please don't ask.)

If you're going, grab one of the tattoos, put it on, and take a photo of yourself wearing it at the convention. Send it to crookedlittlevein@googlemail.com as an attachment by August 7. These photos will be scanned by experts, scientists and perverts from a variety of different disciplines, and the owners of the five favourite photos will each win a signed copy of CROOKED LITTLE VEIN.

(So send it from an email address you actually check, because HarperCollins will contact the winners on the email address you send the photo from to get your details.)

Why August 7? I won't be checking before then as I'm en route to Arizona immediately after SDCC, to sign comics and boil alive at Atomic Comics in Phoenix.

Also, for those attending the show, I should add that the good people at Fox Atomic will be giving away special CROOKED LITTLE VEIN t-shirts to prize-wheel winners at their booth. (Which I also cannot obtain for you.)

And so it is said.

Keep in mind if you're traveling through Nevada, state law requires two hookers in any active limo at all times. You WILL get a ticket without them!

Anyone reading this in the greater Los Angeles area: if you grab me a tattoo or three and bring them to me more or less intact I'll love you forever! Or at least I'll be nice and get you a drink or something cool.

Just can't get away for ComiCon. dammit all.

PLEEEEAASE?

Los Angeles? You could almost WALK there!

I live in San Jose and I don't have a car or enough vacation time and work weekends.
I should be begging for temp tats.

Comicon only happens once in a lifetime, afterall.

or every year... But yeah. It's a huge opportunity to meet Warren that I'm missing here and that blows.

the performance will be awesome, I know that much. the chance of a lifetime is here, though, for me. dunno about you, but I've been cut off from my art for over seven years, limping along doing other things I found less fulfilling and just trying to pay the bills. I'm *finally* doing what I feel like I was fucking born to do.

much love for Warren & all the Comicon goodness/insanity, but even Warren says this life is it, this is not a quiz, this is for real. Etc.

So I gotta do what I gotta do, you know?

Of course I know.
Even if you did go how much time would you even really get to spend with your icons? How much quality time?

At WonderCon I saw Matt Wagner sitting at his signing table, all by hisself and I almost shat myself with glee. And I was really glad I could meet him, but the truth of the matter was that there wasn't really anything I could think to say or do that would make him want to "talk" with me, so I had my few moments of nerdgasm and then left politely.
I dunno, life is bittersweet.

off topic, but I had a dream about you last night.

You were showing me how to steal large shipping crates that were in the back of Wal-Mart. You wouldn't tell me what was in the boxes (I had a suspicion that they were copies of your book and you refused to have them sold at Wal-Mart), just that we had to get them out there and that we had to burn them. So we hijacked a forklift and drove them through the store since the back garage doors were locked. We ended up breaking through the outdoor lawn and garden section and out into the parking lot. Then I woke up.

The dream really didn't make sense. Then again, none of my dreams do.

I read the chapter of your book. There is something not right in your head. Its makes such wonderful words.
