Someone asked me yesterday, "why do you do the thing with the self portraits?" And it’s like this: because people forget that there are other people on the other end of the internet. People forget that they’re side by side with other people every time they visit a website, that they’re talking with real people every time they post a comment. It’s too easy for people to let everyone become anonymous on the net. I don’t like that. This whole thing is made out of people. Once a year, I like to remind you.
Also, this site has always attracted interesting-looking people. Oh, and second row, far right — that’s comics writer/artist Brandon Graham. I think one of his first paid gigs would have been on a TRANSMETROPOLITAN page, in TALES OF HUMAN WASTE.

Perhaps a better question would be "how many vague body parts have you received, how much bleach will it take to get rid of them, and how much will the resultant therapy cost"? But that would be three questions.
I thought this was just kinda a cool little thing. Now I've heard your reasoning for it it's about 1000% more awesome. And I'd do my own if that wasn't going to total like...5 pictures.
And me too! Which one are you? I'm the one that's STEALING YOUR SOUL.
Im second row far left, just call me neonface. ET vous?
i have been impressed at the many interesting aspects people have presented here so far!
I love this project. Is it too late for submissions?
And Brandon Graham is a hoopy frood. I got lucky enough to hang out with him and a few other people after Wondercon in SF at a restaurant that looks the other way to smoking indoors and has a large orange cat that they said owns the bar.
I second the " Is it too late for submissions?" question, and would ask you to remind us where to send them again.
I note that you have not posted any nude self portraits; Is that because you haven't received any, or are you keeping it to faces only?
*blink* Really? I find that remarkable. No, I'm not being sarcastic; From what I've seen of some of your open mic threads, your readers aren't shy about posting images of themselves in various stages of nudity.
My best guess is that your participants are taking your World Wide Week project rather seriously.
I've been enjoying seeing all the faces. Thank you.
I see you are now allowing for people to submit drawings of themselves...
Your statement, above, very clearly illustrates a point about the internet that I've been discussing with friends lately. I recently accepted a job as a forum and community admin on a social networking site, and the kinds of behavior we have to sanction is just unbelievable, at times.
Would you mind if I use that quote in a statement on policy and treating people like humans on our website?
