PAGE ONE
Pic 1 We're looking at a tall mirror in a dark room. And we see a man's reflection in the mirror, not the man himself. The DOKTOR is looking at himself. Stripped to the waist. He is very thin. He has his goggles in his hand. Looks at himself. Dark circles around his eyes, like he hasn't slept in years. SIX-GRID – THREE ROWS OF TWO.
DOKTOR TODAY I STOP BEING REAL.
Pic 2 He looks down at the goggles in his hand, smiling sadly.
DOKTOR NO-ONE'S GOING TO LISTEN TO A BOY GENIUS. NO-ONE'S GOING TO LISTEN TO A PHILOSOPHER OR A TRAVELLER.
DOKTOR NO-ONE CARES ABOUT AN ORPHAN, OR A RICH MAN, OR SOME GROWN-UP GRINDER KID FROM HEAVENSIDE.
DOKTOR ALL THE THINGS I'VE BEEN: NO-ONE'S EVER BEEN INTERESTED.
Pic 3 He starts putting on the goggles, getting the strap around the back of his head.
DOKTOR WEIRD LITTLE JOHNNY FROM THE BIG HOUSE ON SCARTOP; WHO EVER REALLY GAVE A SHIT?
DOKTOR PEOPLE LIKE LISTENING TO CHARACTERS. CHARACTERS ARE SAFE, BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT REAL.
DOKTOR SO TODAY I BECOME A CHARACTER.
Pic 4 He gets the goggles over his eyes, and looks at himself.
DOKTOR JOHN REINHARDT AND ALL THE THINGS HE'S SEEN: HE'S A BIT TOO REAL. THE THINGS HE WANTS TO DO ARE A BIT TOO OBVIOUS.
DOKTOR BUT IF YOU COVER HIS EYES, YOU CAN'T SEE THAT HE HASN'T SLEPT FOR A YEAR.
Pic 5 Zoom in as he looks in the mirror and grins a big crazy grin.
DOKTOR BUT DOKTOR SLEEPLESS. HE'S SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY.
DOKTOR WHO'S AFRAID OF A CARTOON MAD SCIENTIST?
Pic 6 Zoom out, to get his figure in shot, standing with his back to us: and there's an immense green GRINDER TATTOO covering his back.
DOKTOR WHO'S AFRAID OF DOKTOR SLEEPLESS?

Wow. The adventures of a Real Boy trying to become Pinocchio?
Not sure which I'm looking forward to more at this point, this or Ignition City...
Good stuff.
"WHO'S AFRAID OF DOKTOR SLEEPLESS?" Funny how by just asking that, he automatically makes me afraid of him.
I knew there was some reason I love you.
Lovin it. And that grinder symbol is begging for t-shirts!
Well. New comic subscription, check.
I am so going to want to read this one. It's just the sort of opening that cymrys would have emailed me excitedly about, urging me to read it. Any artist in particular lined up for this one or in mind?
Intrigued but not yet sold.
I like the sound of things so far! Definitely will be picking this up.
But as for the grinder symbol, I'd like it better if it didn't reference the "666" look. It would be scarier without that, since "666" is so played out. (Especially since the actual number in the bible was eventually discovered to be "616" anyway...)
Alright, I'm giving you money, get over it. God.
OOOH!
I'm afraid of Doktor Sleepless!
Oh warren...
When i was a little kid, i oftentimes had plenty of time to myself. My parents owned and operated a roadhouse and rather than be run ragged by my workaholic father, I took to hiding in the storage areas. In one, they had a number of the large sized coffee urns with all manner of impenetrable switches and knobs and dials and kinds of inscrutable bits and pieces. I would arrange the urns in a large half circle and go about conducting my "Grand Experiments", Cackling insanely as i went, like ya do.
My parents thought it cute. And to a degree encouraged my interest in science.
Until i re-animated a dead cat...Then they encouraged me to go into the arts instead.
Ah well.
This will be a good time.
"TODAY I STOP BEING REAL."
Amazing stuff.

i'd buy a poster of just that page.
Intriguing- it has that eerie dark dream turning into nightmare quality that promises a gripping story to come.
heh...nice...
How do I order it online? Comics doldrums here.

Your words taste like candy. Candy that makes your tongue bleed.
Oh, my.
When do I get to inject this again? | |
